Insomnia Treatment (5) : NO ALCOHOL

A bottle of beer or a glass of wine might relax you and help you sleepy. Only one drink doesn't have much effect to your body and mind. However, If you drink a lot before you get to bed, alcohol in your blood might disrupt your stage of sleep and wake you up early or wake you up a few times in the middle of night, which may result in some bad experience with headache and nausea.

Therefore, alcohol can really cause insomnia, even though, it might help you to get off to sleep in the first place. Because your body, especially your liver and kidneys need to work really hard to digest it, and your body has to facilitate extra adrenalin, which is a stimulant. It has been discovered that sleep is more interupted with more awakenings after alcohol intake, and it also directly reduces REM sleep.

How about algoholics?

Morever, researchers say that Alcoholics are more likely to experience a more shallow sleep, a blurring of the wake-sleep rhythm, and also spend more time in bed. Eventhough after chronic alcoholics give up booze, their sleep problems might not end. With alcohol with drawal sleep can actually worsen and them ultimately improve in the long run. However, the improvement might take months or years.
What's more with alchoho, babies born to women who did not abstain from drinking during pregnancy tend to exhibit abnormal sleep patterns after birth.
