Insomnia Treatment: CREATE YOUR SLEEP DIARY

The first easy step to help you overcoming insomnia is to create your sleep diary. The reason why you have to do this is to find out what type of insomnia you actually have experienced.

Generally, insomnia is categorized into three types; "Sleep onset insomnia", "Maintenance insomnia", and "Early Morning insomnia".


"Sleep onset insomnia" is normally occured when you have too much energy level or when your minds are full with life stories or matters such as commitments or deadlines.

"Maintenance insomnia" is an inability to go back to sleep after waking up in the middle of night. This kind of insomnia can lead you to tireness and irritability in the next day. Sleeping pills, alcohol and nicotin are classified as possible causes of this Maintenance insomnia.

"Early Morning Insomnia" is happened when you unexpectedly wake up a few hours before your usual wake up time. This type of insomnia usually leads you to despression. The major cause of Early Morning Insomnia is the environment in your bedroom for example; sun light through the window or noise of your neighbors.

Therefore, this diary will help you know your type of insomnia as well as assist you narrow down its cause and determine its treatment.

In the diary, you have to write down date, your bedtime, sleep onset time , Time of Awake, number of time awake, Total sleep time, and your feeling in the next morning.
